Neuropsychomotricity in motor skills in students aged 8 to 11 years in hospital classrooms

The research aimed to develop a neuropsychomotor activities guide to strengthen motor skills among students aged 8 to 11 years from the hospital classroom of the Hospital General Docente de Riobamba. The study followed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 15 students selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted using a structured observation sheet comprising 20 indicators related to gross and fine motor skills, assessed through an ordinal scale with the categories always, almost always, sometimes, almost never, and never. The instrument validity was established through the judgment of three experts from the Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo and the Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE, while reliability was determined through a pilot test applied to 10 students from the Hospital Pediátrico Alfonso Villagómez. The results showed strengths in body coordination, postural control, lateral movements, hand-eye coordination, and manipulation of small objects, with favorable percentages exceeding 90% in some indicators. The main difficulties were identified in one-foot balance, cutting along lines, and constructing figures with blocks. It was concluded that health conditions, medical restrictions, emotional factors, and limited movement opportunities may influence students’ motor performance. Based on the diagnosis, a guide of playful, flexible, safe, and adaptable neuropsychomotor activities was designed according to the characteristics of the hospital classroom context.
