Abstract

Intrafamilial aggression constitutes a social and psychological problem that affects individuals’ emotional well-being by occurring within family contexts characterized by violence, abuse, and dysfunctional dynamics. These experiences are associated with difficulties in emotional regulation processes, particularly in the identification, expression, and adequate management of emotions. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between intrafamilial aggression and emotional regulation through a systematic review of the scientific literature. The methodology was developed according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines through a search of studies in the Scopus database. Studies published between 2022 and 2026 that addressed the relationship between intrafamilial violence and emotional regulation were included, incorporating 13 studies into the qualitative synthesis. The results showed that exposure to violent situations was associated with difficulties in emotional regulation, reduced coping capacity, negative thoughts, low self-efficacy, and greater psychological vulnerability. Additionally, associated factors were identified, including adverse childhood experiences, social isolation, and the absence of support networks, as well as emotional and behavioral consequences related to anxiety, depression, psychological distress, and self-harm behaviors. It was concluded that intrafamilial aggression represents a multidimensional phenomenon that requires a comprehensive approach considering emotional, family, and social factors through strategies aimed at strengthening emotional regulation, psychological coping, and specialized support.
